Day 43

Wow, what a day it was!!!  This was definitely one of the “highlights of our 49 day Tour.” We boarded the bus for the 30 minute or so trip to the boats at 8:00 AM.  It was a little cloudy but not that cool.

We drove out to Scammon’s Lagoon, got into our boats, headed for the deeper water, and within about 15 minutes, we saw the first whales blowing.  Our boat drivers/guides were incredible.  There were whales everywhere……it was just unbelievable.  There were three Adventure Caravan boats, and most of us had up-close and personal encounters with the whales.

Our boats “up-close and personal encounter” came when a mother and her calf played around our boat for more than half an hour.

Our pictures/videos are great.  It was as though the mother wanted us to pet her and the baby.  They both seemed to love having water scooped onto their backs.  They were in front of the boat, under the boat, on the sides of the boat.  All, but one guy in our boat, got to pet the mother and calf.  The only reason Steve missed the opportunity was because he liked to look but not touch!!!

Then we were off to the “World’s Largest Salt Mine.”  It was amazing.  Cynthia, our guide, took us through all the different processes.  The equipment was “humongous.”  We watched them process the salt from trucks to the conveyor belts.
Then drove over to where the machine first broke up the salt. We watched the grader drive down the salt fields putting the salt in rows. Then along came the trucks and a machine filled up the truck’s three trailers.

See my pictures!!  It was really amazing.  You use items like sea salt/table salt every day and never think of the process by which it gets to your table.

Another Adventure Caravan Day….
