Day 40

With one last look at our beautiful but windy Playa Santispac beach, we departed for San Ignacio.  The roads were narrow with many washed-out drainage clips.

Along the way, we made a stop in the Town of Santa Rosalia. Because of the narrow streets, we parked along Hwy 1 and walked a few blocks to Town Center and the steel Eiffel church.

Gustave Eiffel, the designer of the Eiffel tower in Paris, also designed this Church.  It was a prefabricated building constructed in Paris, France, in 1887 and shipped here in 1889 and placed in storage until 1895. Then it was purchased to be used by the mine employees.

The El Boleo French Bakery was our next stop for just baked sweet rolls. Yum yum!

Our walk included a photo stop at the steam engine, Compania El Boleo.

Leaving Santa Rosalia and heading northwest, the terrain began to change. There was evidence of mining operations and large brownish/red lava flows and beds.  The beauty of the extinct volcanoes, Tres Virgenes, located east of San Ignacio, is one of Baja’s treasures.
